Lake Taupo

The spectacular Lake Taupo is living up to the expectations of being one of the premier tourist destinations in the North Island of New Zealand. Lake Taupo makes the ideal setting for skydives because of it beautiful surrounding landscape. Thus, it’s not surprising that it is the biggest commercial skydive drop zone in the world. The dive here allows you to freefall from 15,000 feet above the air at a speed of almost 200 kilometers per hour. There are three companies that offer tailor-made tandem skydiving in Lake Taupo. They let you choose a preferred drop zone and offers a video footage of the dive.

Nearby Attractions

The lake itself is not the only main draw for the Lake Taupo region. Around the area, there are mountain peaks that are waiting to be conquered by skiers, trekkers and climbers. The Tongariro National Park is where you can further explore the incredible volcanic terrain, and walk the best hiking trails like the Tongariro Crossing. If you go north of Lake Taupo, you can find the Huka Falls, known for the thundering rush of water that spills dramatically over its cliff face at 220,000 liters every second.
